A Tale of Two Americas

In the wake of the election results this week, I wanted to offer some thoughts on how the Democrat party and the Biden Administration lost this election. While on the surface, it is really easy to blame people for selling democracy for cheaper gasoline, I think that also covers up the real issues.

It was a referendum on the failure of our institutions to do things like hold the former president accountable for his actions, meet the electorate where they are in the informationscape, counter Russian propaganda.

Remember, Trump has always run as an anti-institutionalists. When your institutions are failing you (or being perceived to fail you), the message of a Trump-like candidate will have greater appeal.

With that, let’s get started…

I will own up to the fact that I have been caught up in sitting in my own echo chamber. There are many things that I did not like about the former president’s, turned president-elect, administrations, and the events of January 6th are still incredibly problematic. This Politico article sums up the plodding inaction and gaffes that prevented the former president for being held accountable for his actions.
